Departing from Fez at 8:00 AM, we begin our scenic drive toward Merzouga, passing through the captivating landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we’ll journey through the charming town of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” followed by a peaceful stop at the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you may spot native Barbary macaques.
The road winds through breathtaking mountain terrain, showcasing rugged cliffs, lush springs, and traditional Berber villages nestled in the hills. We’ll pause for a relaxing lunch break in Midelt, a town known for its apple orchards and mountain views.
Continuing south, we’ll pass through the dramatic Ziz Gorges and lush palm-filled oases, offering perfect photo opportunities and insight into Morocco’s natural beauty. Upon arrival in Merzouga, and depending on time, you’ll enjoy a welcoming cup of mint tea at a traditional Kasbah before your desert experience begins.
From here, your camel trekking journey begins—riding across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun begins to set. After about an hour, you’ll arrive at your desert camp, where a magical night awaits. Enjoy traditional music, stargazing, and a warm dinner under the vast Sahara sky.
Wake up early to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, a truly unforgettable moment as the desert glows in the soft morning light. Afterward, ride your camel back to Merzouga village, where you’ll freshen up with a shower and enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel.
We then begin our journey toward Ouarzazate, traveling through Rissani, known for its bustling souk and historic significance, and Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops. The route takes us along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, dotted with fortified villages and palm groves.
Around midday, we stop for lunch and a refreshing walk through the Todra Gorges—towering limestone cliffs that offer stunning views and a cool, shaded escape. From there, we continue through the Dades Valley, with its dramatic red rock formations and winding roads, before reaching Ouarzazate by late afternoon.
Settle in for dinner and an overnight stay at a comfortable hotel, with time to relax and prepare for the final leg of your adventure.
After breakfast, we begin the day with a visit to the cinematic town of Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa.” You’ll explore the impressive Taourirt Kasbah, a maze of history and architecture, followed by a visit to the world-renowned Atlas Studios, where countless iconic films and series were shot.
Next, we head to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with a view, then take time to wander through the ancient ksar, where history whispers from every corner.
In the afternoon, we make our way back to Marrakech, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass. Along the way, you’ll be treated to a tapestry of vibrant landscapes, passing through quaint Berber villages, catching glimpses of hidden waterfalls, and admiring the ever-changing colors of the mountain terrain.
